Abstract

The text has as its object of reflection the work Robinson Crusoé (1719), by the writer Daniel Defoe, under the post-colonial prism - theory that studies within literary fiction the results of colonization on colonized subjects. Here, the base point is the objectification of Friday – demoted by the derogatory terms used by Robinson Crusoe. Therefore, it is observed that Friday was placed in a position of inferiority by Crusoe, perhaps because he was indian, walked naked, did not master the European language and also had no culture, besides not being a Christian. It can be seen that in the colonial figure represented in Friday, there are also beliefs and values that are ignored by the colonizer – in the figure of Crusoe.
