From Austin to Rabatel
a pragmatic-enunciative analysis of textual production proposals in textbooks

This work aims to highlight the analytical potential of combining J. L. Austin's ([1962] 1990) Speech Acts theory with Alain Rabatel's (2016) point of view theory towards the analysis of textual production proposals in textbooks. It seeks to evidence that the articulation between these theoretical frameworks can broaden the understanding of activity proposals beyond operational descriptions, as well as reveal teaching and learning conceptions of writing. The framework includes theoretical studies on Speech Acts (Austin, [1962] 1990), point of view (Rabatel, 2015, 2016; Cortez, 2011a, 2011b; Carmo, Costa & Cortez, 2026), and writing (Koch & Elias, 2010; Geraldi, 2015; Lopes, 2025). The analysis extracted tasks from textbooks is based on a qualitative methodology. The results indicate that the proposed editorial sequence does not necessarily imply greater complexity in the teaching approach on writing. This finding confirms the relevance of this articulation for the critical analysis on teaching materials as well as for considerations on writing teaching practices in Portuguese language classes.
