Semantic-enunciative functioning of the words demonstrator and demonstration

This research aims to understand the semantic-enunciative functioning of the words demonstrator and demonstration in the State's discourse, represented here by the statement of the ex-president of Brazil Dilma Rousseff, in national radio and television, on June 21, 2013. To this end, we used the analysis procedures proposed by the Event-Based Semantic Theory, developed by Guimarães (2005; 2007a; 2007b; 2011; 2018). After carrying out the analyzes, it was possible to understand that the meaning of demonstrator and demonstration is constituted from the relationship that these words establish with other words in the statements which they work. Thus, the analyzed pronouncement constitutes itself as an enunciative event that stands out as a space for the constitution of meanings and for the division of languages.
