Abstract

Guided theoretically and methodologically by French-school Discourse Analysis—specifically the perspective of Michel Pêcheux and its intersections and shifts regarding art—this research is grounded in the discursive spaces surrounding the feminine, the body, and the female body. It aims to investigate the discursivization and meanings of the female body in the performance “Lovely Babies” by artist Márcia X. The video recording of the performance, originally staged in 1993, serves as the material for constructing the discursive corpus. Starting from the question of how the female body is discursivized and how it signifies meaning in “Lovely Babies,” the study reveals a discursivization of the female body’s representation within art that highlights the multiple meanings inherent in the woman-body-performance relationship.

Author Biographies

  • Andresa de Angeli Viotti, Centro Universitário Cidade Verde - UniCV

    Holds a Master’s degree in Letters (specializing in Literature and Historicity) from the State University of Maringá and a degree in Performing Arts (with full teaching certification in Theater) from the same institution. She also holds a specialization in Art, Education, and Therapy from the Instituto Paranaense de Ensino. She is a member of the Study and Research Group on Clowning, Comicity, and Playfulness (IFPR). Her current research focuses on Brazilian Theater, Comic Theater, and Political Theater. She is a member of the group *Meu Clown Maringá*, performing as both an actress and a clown. She has been registered as a professional artist (Clown) under number 0028440/PR since 2014.

  • Lucas Benatti, Centro Universitário Cidade Verde - UniCV

    Professor and researcher. Holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Education from the Graduate Program in Education at the State University of Maringá (UEM). Holds degrees in Visual Arts, Education (Pedagogy), and Psychopedagogy. Specialist in Art Teaching Methodology. Higher education professor teaching courses on art theory, aesthetics, and art history, as well as teacher training and teaching practice. Member of the Research Group on Education, Media, and Cultural Studies (GPEMEC/UEM) and the Research Group on Discursivity, Culture, Media, and Art (GPDISCMÍDIA/UEM). Founder and coordinator of the Art and Creative Education Laboratory (LAEC/UniCV).
