Brazil presents regional heterogeneities in its population dynamics and its exposure to extreme events. This study aims to evaluate the temporal evolution of the total fertility rate and the occurrence of disasters between 2010 and 2022 across Brazil’s 27 federative units. The research adopts a comparative method with a quantitative and descriptive approach. Total fertility rate data were obtained from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, while disaster data were extracted from the Integrated Disaster Information System. The results indicate that 16 of the 27 federative units showed an increase in the total number of disaster recognitions between 2010 and 2022. Simultaneously, in 15 of these 16 units, the total fertility rate declined, indicating a higher frequency of disasters alongside a decrease in fertility. It is concluded that disasters may act as factors that amplify the decline in fertility, but they are not determinants of this process.
