Muito da fama de bom governante do imperador romano Juliano, dito “o Apóstata” (355-363), tem origem na sua capacidade como chefe militar. Durante seu período como César na Gália (355-360), conteve de maneira eficaz as invasões dos Alamanni. É comum creditar seu sucesso às suas habilidades militares. O presente artigo versará sobre como o sucesso de Juliano também se deveu a dois outros fatores: a sua perambulação militar por terras gálicas, que atraía a atenção e aprovação de seus súditos; e a publicação de uma pequena obra sobre a batalha de Argentoratum, o seu maior sucesso militar.
