Historical-dialectical materialism and the defetishization of reality

The objective of this article is to elucidate the relationship between the historical-dialectical materialism and the process of defetishizing reality. Drawing on the contributions of Marxist social theory and Lukács's Ontology and Aesthetics, this article discusses fundamental categories for unveiling the object of investigation in question. The methodology is carried out through a literature review with an immanent analysis of the works of Marx and Lukács. Initially, the article addresses the specific characteristics of commodity fetishism and its “inverting power” of reality, apologetic for capitalism. Next, it delves into the categories of labor, historical-dialectical materialism, and scientific reflection. This, in turn, promotes the defetishization of reality through the Marxist method. It’s important for critical Social Work, linked to the ethics of rupture inherent in the professional Ethical-Political Project, to maintain and promote the constant deepening of Marxist studies and research, considering its influence in all spheres of the profession.
