About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Desafios do Processo is designed to promote the multidisciplinary debate on Procedural Law. Therefore, proposals for articles with a theoretical or practical approach are accepted, especially committed to the discussion of procedural law systems and the protection of existential and patrimonial rights.

The articles section privileges the publication of in-depth and comprehensive research, as well as innovative reflections on doctrine of law. The review section has a twofold goal: to acquaint the Brazilian reader with the most recent and significant international contributions, and to showcase the best of the Brazilian scholarship to readers abroad. By providing a space of excellence for academic debate in this field, we hope to produce meaningful references for for the promotion of justice in courts and conflict decision-making bodies..

Necessarily, the papers must be the result of research that is intended for the study of the main institutes of Brazilian and foreign Civil Procedural Law.

Desafios do Processo offers full open access (free, unlimited and immediate) to its whole collection, and does not require that authors pay any type of article processing charge (APC) or other fee. The journal also does not apply a minimum-degree policy for authors. Desafios do Processo will consider submissions in Portuguese, English or Spanish, but, if it is in the interest of the editorial board, the article may be in another language.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts should be prepared taking into account the requirements of a double-blind review process.

  • References to authorship and institutional affiliation, as well as acknowledgments and reference to funding must be removed. This information will be reincorporated during proofreading, based on the corresponding data given in the submission form.
  • Reference to any of the authors’ previous works must be rendered impersonal, or, if not possible, must be fully replaced by the label “[reference removed to preserve author’s identity]” in the corresponding footnote and in the bibliography entered in the submission form.

The evaluation of articles submitted for publication will be carried out by members of the Editorial Board and researchers from other institutions appointed ad hoc and by permanent reviewers.

Submitted articles and reviews will undergo a pre-selection in which the relevance of the texts in relation to the thematic proposal of the journal will be evaluated. Once accepted in the pre-selection, the articles will be sent to two reviewers who, upon consideration of the topic addressed, its treatment, clarity of writing and compliance with the journal's rules, can:

  • Recommend the publication, with or without suggestions (it is up to the author to accept them or not);
  • Approve through reformulation, which implies sending the text back to the referee after the changes made by the author;
  • Decline publication.

In case of two disagreeing opinions, the text will be sent to a third referee. It should be noted that the opinions are confidential and impartial, since the names of the authors of the texts (and their institutional affiliation) are not disclosed to the evaluators. The final decision will be made by the editorial board of Desfios do Processo. To achieve a "blind peer review" in the selection of reviewers, editors will seek to avoid potential conflicts of interest. It is possible to monitor the rate of article acceptances, as well as rejections, to verify the effectiveness of the criteria required from the authors.

Reviews will undergo an evaluation, carried out by the editor or members of the Editorial Board of the journal, regarding the treatment of the topic addressed, clarity of writing and agreement with the proposals of Desafios do Processo. To evaluate the dossier texts, each organizer will set up, together with the Editorial Board, a commission that will involve the organizers, the journal's advisors and ad hoc reviewers.
