The Popular Education as an ally in the fight for the right to health in peasant communitiesaffected by the transposition of the São Francisco river

This article seeks to narrate the experience of training Community Mobilizers in Health carried out by the University Extension Program “TransVERgente”, in partnership with three peasant communities affected by the transposition works of the São Francisco River in the municipality of Sertânia, in the Sertão Pernambuco. Based on the Popular Education in Health proposal,
the methodology of culture circles was adopted as a mobilizing resource for holding eight weekly group meetings, with eight residents of each community, over two months. The training proposal had as its main meaning the formation of leaders, aiming at community mobilization and the production of autonomy in these territories, in the direction of claiming the right to health
repairs, in view of the vulnerabilities experienced in the context of the execution of the transposition works, which still reverberate in their lives today. In this path, it was possible to build a conception of health as a broad and multidimensional phenomenon, which crosses and is crossed by several resonances caused by the mega-project in these territories, identifying the main challenges, as well as envisioning alternatives and allies to face the precariousness experienced in each community
