Interpretative trails are excellent tools to integrate the human being into the natural environment and establish a change in environmen-tal perception. Based on this concept, the present work had as main goal the developing of a plan of action in Environmental Education for the "Jardim das Borboletas" (butterfly garden), located in “Parque da Ilha” (Island Park) -Divinópolis/MG, through the creation of a guided interpretive trail to be carried out by students. The effectiveness of this plan was evaluated through a questionnaire, containing questions about themes related to the "Garden of Butterflies", which was applied before and after the educational practice. The compari-son between the average scores obtained before and after the activ-ity was done through the paired t-test. 103 students from elementary school took part in the study, answering the questionnaire. After the activity, there was an increase of 19.6% in the average of correct answers. The results suggest that, after the activities were carried out, there were significant changes in students' conception related to specific subjects in the area of Science / Biology dealt with along the interpretative trail as well as environmental issues, highlighting the theme gardens as enlightening places for the teaching and learning of science, ecology and environmental issues.
