Abstract

The work of oral history, using recorded interviews is an important methodological support to discover and highlight the perceptions of individuals and human groups. It is shown as a promising method for conducting research in different areas. In this study, on the agenda, it is the traditional community D'Agua Stone fishing in São Mateus, ES, which are developed ways to live and are constructed knowledge that have been passed down from generation to generation, creating a cultural identity . The study group was made up of five community members fishermen. And with the implementation of the procedures used to perform the oral history methodology it was possible to identify the positive and negative points of fishing in the point of view of community fishermen. These points, which were exposed in fed back meetings for members. Fishermen reported as a reduction of fish and lack of employment have reached the fishing activity in that community and the needs you have, and those that have already been met. The similarity in the responses, the influences they have and the commitment of fishermen to the activity practice are identified with the story.
