The concept of work engagement, understood as the involvement, dedication and effort of individuals in their roles, has
gained prominence due to its impact on organizational efficiency, including in the context of the public sector. Given the
recent interest, this study aims to analyze the scientific production on work engagement in the public sector and explore
the factors that influence employee engagement. The methodology combines a bibliometric and integrative literature
review, using production indexed in the Web of Science. The results indicate recent growth in research, focused on three
axes: (1) engagement and performance; (2) burnout and resources; and (3) job demands and health. Influential factors
are identified at the individual, interpersonal and organizational levels. Contributions come from areas such as
organizational psychology, public administration and collective health. It is concluded that integrated and multidisciplinary
approaches are essential to deepen the understanding of engagement in the public sector.
