Abstract

This research aims to understand the challenges of school management in implementing anti-racist education in basic
education. To this end, qualitative research was carried out, with data collected through interviews, analyzed using
Bardin's content analysis (2010). 22 interviews were carried out in schools from 1st to 5th year. The results showed the
difficulty in formulating the concept of anti-racist education and identifying the specific needs of Black students, as well as
a limited understanding of racism in schools, shortcomings in training provided to school leadership, and a lack of specific
public policies addressing the issue. The analysis also revealed a limited understanding of the importance of anti-racist
education, a factor that contributes to the occurrence of racist practices among students in grades 1 through 5 of
elementary school. The research highlights the need for teacher training regarding ethnic-racial relations, curriculum
development, and anti-racist educational materials, as well as the importance of respecting students' individual learning
paces.
