About the Journal

The Revista Sofia (ISSN 2317-2339, classified as A2 in Qualis 2021-2024), affiliated with the Graduate Program in Philosophy at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), publishes original articles, translations, and reviews in the field of Philosophy, authored by professors and researchers who are doctoral candidates or hold a master's or doctoral degree, and which are not under evaluation for publication in another journal.

In this sense, the Revista Sofia has the mission of contributing to the qualification of debate within the national and international philosophical community.

The journal is published semiannually, with issues scheduled for July and December. Its content includes thematic dossiers, articles submitted in continuous flow, translations, and reviews. Original works will be accepted in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, Italian, or German.

The Revista Sofia is funded by FAPES (Espírito Santo Research and Innovation Support Foundation), through FAPES NOTICE No. 19/2023 SUPPORT FOR JOURNAL EDITING AND PUBLICATION, valid until July 31, 2025.

Peer Review Process

The Revista Sofia follows the double-blind review system, i.e., evaluation by two anonymous reviewers to analyze each proposed article, review, or translation. In the case of contradictory reviews, the submission will be sent to a third anonymous reviewer.

Prior to this, the originals are sent to the Journal's Editorial Board, which may reject the submission if it does not meet the Focus and Scope of the publication.

Reviews are issued by specialists with a doctorate degree in the area of the submitted work and who are part of the reviewer body; if the specialist in the topic in question is not in our reviewer system, the journal will request an ad hoc review.

Review recommendations are "acceptance," "rejection," or "acceptance with revisions," justified through objective and qualitative criteria present in our evaluation form.

It is the responsibility of the Editorial Board to accept or not the reviewers' recommendations and to forward any requests for reformulation to the authors.

In the case of proposal rejection, the editors will issue a justification and, in the case of acceptance conditioned on revisions, the author will receive the recommendations and a deadline to meet the Editorial Board's requests.

The Managing Editor will respond to authors' questions about the submission process at any of its stages.

Final acceptance of articles depends on the following criteria:

• Reviewers' recommendations;

• Execution of necessary adjustments by the authors;

• Approval by the Editorial Committee, which may decide between the following options:

  • Accept;

  • Mandatory corrections;

  • Resubmit for evaluation;

  • Send to another journal;

  • Reject;

  • See comments.

As of 2025, the Revista Sofia will begin to disclose the list of reviewers at the end of four issues. In addition, we are maturing the idea of open peer review, in alignment with Open Science.

According to best editorial practices, we inform that the editorial workflow timeline from submission, through double-blind review, until the author's final "ok" for publication, may take between 3 and 6 months.

Periodicity

The Revista Sofia is published semiannually, with annual issues.

Deadlines for submission of works for dossiers are announced in the News section and in appropriate communication vehicles. For other contributions, continuous flow articles, reviews, and translations, submissions can be made at any time of the year.

The Revista Sofia works with the continuous publication model, meaning that as soon as the article passes evaluation, is accepted, and completes the layout and revision procedures, it goes immediately to publication, without having to wait for the closing of the complete volume.

Waiver Terms for Authors

The Revista Sofia does not charge any fees to authors for works submitted for evaluation, approved, and published, nor for their distribution or download by third parties.

Journal History

The Revista Sofia is a publication that began electronically in 2012 and is affiliated with the Graduate Program in Philosophy at the Federal University of Espírito Santo. It is a continuation of the printed journal Sofia, published since 1995 by the Department of Philosophy of the University of Espírito Santo. Of an academic nature, it aims to publish thematic dossiers, articles, translations, and reviews by researchers in the field of Philosophy.

Currently, the Revista Sofia is funded by FAPES.
