The sublime as a philosophical and poetic feat in the Pseudo-Longinus’ treatise Peri Hypsous

In Peri Hypsous, Pseudo-Longinus discusses the ways that leads an author to the sublime. For an author to elevate his work to sublimity, it is essential to be inspired by the eminent classics of yore and glimpse in his horizon prosterity. He believes that the sublime vanished in his time, due to the degrading attachment of his contemporaries to pleasures and riches. A sublime work is produced not only by the literary quality, but by the virtue of its author. It transcends the spacial and temporal limits, appreciable in the most varied historical conjunctures. This essay runs through the various layers of Pseudo-Longinus treatise, to unravel its aesthetic, ethic and political nuances.
