The performance of the Brazilian media agenda and its influence on the formation of public policies for Venezuelan refugees in august 2018
Abstract
The present article aims to understand the role of the media in the formulation of public policies directed at refugees by analyzing the journalistic coverage of Venezuelan refugees in Brazil in August 2018. For this purpose, this research examines five journalistic articles published by the G1 Roraima news portal in August 2018. In terms of methodology, qualitative research and content analysis are used. The article is divided into four sections: introduction, theoretical chapter, analysis section, and conclusions. Based on the analysis, it is concluded that the media played a significant role in exposing the problems faced by Venezuelans. Moreover, the presence of the media also highlighted the existing problems in the Roraima region, which were exacerbated by the arrival of Venezuelan refugees. This shows that the media agenda still plays an important role in the formulation of public policies by directing attention to problems and gaps overlooked by public authorities and exerting pressure on political actors to take effective action.
