New political parties: what theoretical contributions?

Abstract

The aim of this article is to provide theoretical understanding of the debates on the New Political Parties (NPP). From the literature review, it is clear that, since the end of the 1960s, debates on this topic have been approached from a variety of perspectives, including theoretical from a variety of perspectives, including theoretical challenges, conceptual nuances, levels of novelty and multidimensionality of new and old parties. Analysis points out that the definition of a “new” party is not consensual among theorists, which affects the perspective(s) of analysis, the evaluation of an election, the electoral and/or party system an election, the electoral and/or party system.
