Accusatory Didacticism and Enemy Construction in Bolsonarist Communication: A Discourse Analysis of Nikolas Ferreira

Authors

Abstract

New political leaders associated with Bolsonarism have been gaining visibility, even though most academic analyses remain focused on the movement's central figures, such as former president Jair Bolsonaro. This article seeks to contribute to the understanding of the communication dynamics of the new Brazilian right based on the analysis of the discourse of federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira. Using data extracted from his YouTube channel and adopting the Discourse Analysis method, we identify recurring rhetorical patterns in his communication, especially the construction of symbolic enemies through Accusatory Didacticism. By exploring how these discursive strategies contribute to polarization and tension in the public sphere, the study sheds light on the mechanisms of delegitimization of adversaries and the contemporary challenges to democracy in Brazil.
