Abstract

This article discusses the presence of women in public spaces in São Mateus do Sul, in the state of Paraná. From the registration of 77 names of women present in eight Minutes of the sessions of the City Council, between the years 1911 and 1932, it was possible to problematize what was the place of the feminine in the composition of the society of São Mateu in the beginning of the 20th century. And, from the story of one of these elite women, we seek to understand, albeit partially, a little of the history of women in the municipality and their presence in public spaces. The sources used were the Minutes, printed documents available at the Casa da Memória in São Mateus and the oral source. Theoretically, this research was guided by the literature of Women's History and Gender Studies.
