Abstract

This text reflects on the thinking of sociologist Abdelmalek Sayad, highlighting the relationship between migration, state thinking, and work. We highlight the interdependence between these categories and also the stages of emigration, namely: temporariness and return. Throughout the text, we appreciate the importance of his work for the analysis of migration in the contemporary world, especially when we consider the political and methodological perspectives of this production.

  • Gislene Santos, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

    Professor in the Department of Geography at UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), where she coordinates the Study Group on Space and Population (GePoP). Currently, she is conducting research on the role of international organizations in the management of population movements in Brazil, focusing primarily on the IOM (International Organization for Migration). Member of the Interdisciplinary Center for Migration Studies and the Network of Researchers in Population Geography

  • Rafaela Dettogni Duarte Paes, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

    Graduated in Geography from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Master's degree in Geography from the Postgraduate Program in Geography at UFRJ, where she researched the integration of young migrants into the school system in Ilha Grande/RJ (CNPq). Currently pursuing a PhD in PPGG-UFRJ (CAPES) with research on internal migrations in Brazil, focusing on young students and their academic performance in Vila do Abraão, Ilha Grande/RJ. Coordinator of Basic Education at the Secretariat of Education, Youth and Innovation of the municipality of Angra dos Reis/RJ.
