Abstract

Introduction: The inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) refers to an abnormal cell proliferation with the presence of an inflammatory infiltrate that can affect different organs and tissues and has no pre-established severity, etiology, diagnosis and treatment. Objectives: To identify the most current literature on gastrointestinal inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor and its implications. Methods: This is a descriptive study of literature review, in 3 (three) online databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS); Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO); Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) with the descriptor and its combinations in Portuguese and English:(Inflammatory myofibroblastic gastrointestinal tumor). Results: Five articles were analyzed within the inclusion criteria. Conclusion: It was concluded with this study that gastrointestinal IMT is a rare condition, but with the capacity for extensive lesions and that it lacks more specific studies and research, given its severity and prognosis.
