Abstract

This text is an experience report of the work carried out, since 2022, at the Conservation and Restoration Center of the Federal University of Espírito Santo. For now, the objective is to present preliminary results of the research and analyzes carried out when intervening in large-format color photographs, discussing here the case study of the remains of the series “Indians of Brazil”, partially exhibited at the aforementioned University in 1995. Authored by photographer/artist Vitor Nogueira, the reflection on what was produced and its current state of conservation allows for a technical and poetic assessment in relation to the use of color.

Author Biographies

Aline Cristina Gomes Ramos, Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo

Master's degree in History, Politics and Cultural Assets from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV/CPDOC), in the area of Cultural Assets and Social Projects and the Memory, Collections and Cultural Assets Research Line. Degree in Conservation-Restoration of Movable Cultural Assets from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2017). Development of research on polychrome wood sculpture and practical work in the areas of conservation-restoration of sculptures, graphic documents and paintings, including in her own studio as an individual micro-entrepreneur. Degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2007). She has experience in the areas of Cultural Heritage, Urban Planning, Social Housing and Landscaping. She is currently a restoration technician at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, working mainly on the following topics: various restorations, conservation-restoration criteria, preventive conservation, collections management and emergency treatment in the event of accidents. Member of the Research Groups: Image and Preservation; and Technology and Organization of Information and Knowledge.

Giulia dos Santos Araújo, Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo

Graduate of the Fine Arts Course (bachelor's degree) at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), since 2020/2. She is part of the extension group of the Center for Restoration and Conservation (NCR) as a Pibex scholarship holder through the Dean of Extension (Proex) since 2021. In 2022, she participated as an exhibitor and part of the organization of the traveling collective exhibition "Emerging Roots", at the Art and Research Gallery (GAP-UFES); and at the Galeria do Centro de Artes Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), in Niterói - RJ, in 2023. He has experience in the area of Arts, with an emphasis on research in the areas of Drawing, Drawing in the expanded field, History of Art, Restoration of goods mobile cultural and visual arts.
