This study investigated the role of digital video production in the development of mathematical modeling activities for building the concepts of area and perimeter. The research was conducted with a 9th-grade class in the municipal public school system of a city in northern Espírito Santo. The Mathematical Modeling activity developed focused on black pepper, a spice found in the region where the school is located. The research is qualitative and exploratory in nature, grounded in Richard E. Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (CTML) and the conception of Mathematical Modeling as a learning environment. The results indicate that the practice of Mathematical Modeling enabled students to relate the concepts of area and perimeter to real-life situations, in addition to promoting critical-social development. Regarding the videos produced by the students, these served as catalysts for creativity and expressiveness, catalysts for the reflection process, contextualizers, motivators, and tools for dissemination. Furthermore, they proved to be effective multimedia materials in promoting learning, as they met most of the principles of CTML, contributing to the construction of the concepts of area and perimeter
