THE ANALYSIS OF THE CONSTRUCTION [SER + O QUE + V(elocution) + SUBJ] IN PORTUGUESE

Abstract

In this paper, through the theoretical postulates of Usage Based Functional Linguistics, we seek to demonstrate that the construction [SER + O QUE + V(elocution) + SUBJ] integrates the conformative scheme in Portuguese. Supported by a qualitative methodology, we selected tokens from the Corpus do Português (NOW), which consists of data from the 21st century. We conclude, from the investigation of Portuguese data, that the construction under analysis, in informative-argumentative textual sequences, presents characteristics of the conformity domain. We also detected ambiguous data, in which there are amalgamated evidentiality and focalization, different from the canonical standard of conformity.
