Quelques aspects philosophiques et politiques de la théorie de l’état chez Marx et Engels

Cet article est une introduction aux aspects philosophiques et politiques de la théorie de l'État chez Marx et Engels. Nous savons pourtant qu'il a souvent été dit qu'il n'y aurait pas de théorie systématique et achevée de l'État et de sa dynamique chez Marx, et encore moins chez Engels. Il reste toutefois que les analyses de Marx et d'Engels sur l'État sont très nombreuses, de leurs premiers écrits jusqu'à leurs tout derniers textes. C'est en fait à une constellation d'éléments théoriques, ou théorico-historiques, davantage qu'à une théorie de l'État proprement dite que nous avons affaire. D'où vient ce paradoxe d'une absence apparente de théorie de l'État dont l'analyse est réellement omniprésente. Et cet autre paradoxe, corollaire, de critiques formulées contre cette « défaillance » théorique qui ne fait en réalité que révéler l'extraordinaire richesse des débats théoriques portant sur l'État entre marxistes - ou plus largement entre hétérodoxes - après Marx et Engels, et surtout grâce à eux. L'article traitera successivement de l'État comme : (1) expression aliénée de la société civile ; (2) instrument dans la lutte des classes ; (3) organisation de la classe dominante ; (4) appareil ou machine ; (5) levier de la révolution ; (6) lié au Capital ; et finalement (7) dans la révolution.
