Ao ser instigada pela Revista Argumentum para refletir sobre “qual política de assistência social queremos defender em contexto de crise do capital”, não posso deixar de iniciar esse texto sem afirmar que me referencio na perspectiva teórico metodológica da tradição marxista. Isso significa afirmar que a política de assistência social não pode ser compreendida em sua essência pelo ângulo das preferências ou concepções do pesquisador ou dos profissionais que nela atuam, o que nos levaria ao idealismo. Isso significa dizer que esse texto se baliza pela preocupação de demonstrar o significado que a política de assistência social assume na sociabilidade capitalista e, especialmente, na particularidade brasileira. Esse é o pressuposto a partir do qual pretendo abordar as tensões que perpassam sua materialidade e as possibilidades concretas de exploração de suas contradições em contexto de crise, na perspectiva de fazer deste um campo de defesa de direitos da classe trabalhadora.
