Política Social na América Latina: tendências contemporâneas

O presente artigo tem por objetivo apresentar algumas reflexões sobre as tendências contemporâneas das políticas sociais na América Latina. Para tanto, utiliza-se da revisão bibliográfica para evidenciar as particularidades e determinantes estruturais próprios dos países periféricos, bem como os impactos do ajuste neoliberal na região que, entre outros aspectos, aprofunda a dependência e a superexploração da força de trabalho. Trata-se, ainda, das contrarreformas do Estado baseadas no desmonte dos sistemas de proteção social, a partir das estratégias de mercantilização dos direitos e transmutação das políticas sociais em serviços privados. E, por fim, discute-se a centralidade e expansão dos mecanismos de intervenção sobre a pobreza, divulgados como principal estratégia de redução da desigualdade e da superexploração da força de trabalho.
