(In)visible and essential: the migration of rural workers during the pandemic

The article presents a preliminary study on workers migrating to agricultural activities in the “Vales” region and to northern Minas Gerais during the pandemic period. It was developed from bibliographic research and information obtained from the Report for the Pastoral Land Commission on the theme, which presents data on the migration of workers in the region in question from April to May 2020. It is possible to see that, because of the agricultural development model built over the past fifty years, a continuous process of temporary migration to agribusiness chains has been forged, which remained during the pandemic, revealing that these workers remain (in)visible within capitalist relations, with almost no social and/or labor protection policies.
