Abstract

The article contrasts data on the sexual abuse suffered by Brazilian children and adolescents, with the public policies of the 2019-2022 Jair Bolsonaro government for confrontation it, taking into consideration the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. It uses documentary and bibliographic sources extracted from public, governmental and non-governmental electronic resources. Recent national data shows that cases involve victims between the ages of 10 and 14, in their own homes, and carried out by people close to them. There are no reliable records stratified by race/colour. In contrast, the National Plan to Combat Violence against Children and Adolescents (2022) is based on a pro-family, privatist, ultra-neoliberal, and theocratic perspective, and does not provide for structural actions to confront racial, social class, and gender inequalities.
