The New Right channels discontent with neoliberal globalisation, whilst hiding its complicity with the company bosses’ outrages. It disguises its conservatism with messages of rebellion, and blames unprotected minorities for the misfortunes generated by capitalism. The European margins have been unable to reconcile their sovereignty with support for the Euro and their subordination to NATO. The Trumpist leadership of the reactionary wave is consistent with the US command of the imperial system, but it has several flaws. Latin America countries are facing popular uprisings and a Progressive wave. They are repeating all the impositions of punitive demagoguery and abnegating their developmentalist predecessors to defend neoliberalism and their submission to the dictates of Washington. Its attraction confirms that the Right has not moderated or modernised. This article discusses the nature of the current Right in Latin America. It picks-up the discussion on fascism and populism and analyses the main characteristics of the ultra-right hypothesis.
