Abstract

ABSTRACT: An analysis of the approach of jealousy and its consequences in Dom Casmurro, by Machado de Assis, in comparison to Swann’s way, first volume of the piece In search of lost time, by Marcel Proust. The influence of jealousy in the way of perceiving past events and the questioning of the beloved one’s moral character integrate both pieces and directly interfere in the way of constructing the narrative. However, distinct intentions by the narrators guarantee the particularities of each piece. Despite the suffering, their jealousy causes the characters’ extreme attitudes. This study is yet to be base on the psychoanalytical perspective regarding some considerations upon the pieces.
