This study presents some aspects of Aquiles Porto Alegre's historiographical production through his memories and reminiscences. Using concepts such as Romanticism, Modernity and Collective Memory, we tried to demonstrate how the chronicles of Aquiles Porto Alegre contributed to the creation of the history of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. Always comparing the Porto Alegre of the first decades of the 20th century with that of the 19th century, Aquiles Porto Alegre creates, in his work, the dichotomy between two distinct cities: one modern, in which past values do not reside, and the other bucolic, almost childish, but more palatable to your desires. Receptacle of his desires, this bucolic city will be constantly accessed through his memories and recreated according to the author's needs.
