Abstract

This article analyzes Hans Haacke's retrospective at SCHIRN Kunsthalle Frankfurt (2024-2025), examining the artist's trajectory as a pioneer of institutional critique. The exhibition demonstrates Haacke's methodological coherence in investigating power structures governing art and society across six decades. The text articulates the main threads of his work – critique of corporate and political power, exposure of institutional mechanisms, historical memory, and democratic accountability. The retrospective reveals both the scope and complexity of a dense, multifaceted oeuvre and the curatorial challenges of synthesizing decades of critical experimentation, exposing tensions between artistic autonomy, market forces, and society.
