About the Journal

The Farol Journal is a biannual publication of the Graduate Program in Arts at the Federal University of Espírito Santo. As an academic initiative, connected to the field of Arts / Visual Arts, the journal is open to texts that aim to discuss the problem of formation and artistic, critical and historiographic assigned for the visual arts. It also strives to provide research experiences, which are open to the fields of knowledge, between consensus and dissent, in a contemporary context.

Each issue includes, in its editorial project, the following original and unpublished materials: essays, thematic sections and articles. As part of its editorial policy, translations of important texts, unpublished in Portuguese, are presented, which in turn may have been previously published in a foreign language. A large part of the proposals of this conglomerate come from relevant academic research, both at a local and global level, which aim to encourage not only the dialogue of the visual arts in a critical instance, but also the visibility of this field with other areas of cultural and scientific production.

The scope of the journal proposes a critical experience of creation and reflection, thus highlighting its function as a significant source of bibliographic research, with immediate free access, both to the academic public, for investigations carried out in undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as to the external community. The material to be published can be submitted by individual authorship or in co-authorship between doctoral students and masters. Master students aiming to publish, should do so in co-authorship with their supervisor (s) or other doctors (as).

These submissions occur both in a continuous flow and through an open call by the thematic sections of an Editorial Committee’s responsibility. The evaluations are conducted by the double-blind peer-review system, seeking to guarantee full exemption in the entire process.

Due to its link with the PPGA, the scope of operations of FAROL Journal includes, as area and lines of research of the Graduate Program in Arts, id est:
