El cielo de verano ahora suele adquirir el color de la cúrcuma. El humo de los incendios forestales, que llega desde cientos de kilómetros de distancia, queda atrapado como grandes redes entre los edificios. Edmonton, Alberta, donde he vivido durante casi veinte años, es una ciudad al borde del bosque boreal canadiense. Este bosque forma parte de la Taiga, el segundo bosque más grande del mundo, que se extiende por Canadá y continúa por Islandia, Noruega, Suecia, Finlandia, Rusia, Mongolia y Japón. En Canadá, cubre 270 millones de hectáreas entre las llanuras y las llanuras. la tundra ártica desprovista de árboles. El Bosque Boreal alberga a más de 600 comunidades indígenas, alberga la mayoría de las reservas conocidas de combustibles fósiles de Canadá, almacena más de 208 mil millones de toneladas de carbono (11% del total mundial) y, junto con la selva amazónica, constituye uno de de los dos grandes pulmones del planeta.
