The Rivista di Studi su Fichte / Revista de Estud(i)os sobre Fichte is a peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to the study and critical investigation of the philosophy of Johann Gottlieb Fichte, its historical and intellectual context, and its principal interlocutors. Founded in 2012, the journal has established itself as a leading forum for the publication of original, high-quality scholarship, fostering scholarly dialogue and international academic exchange.
History
Founded in 2012, the journal was established to address the lack of a scholarly publication devoted exclusively to the study of Johann Gottlieb Fichte's philosophy within the Latin American, Iberian, and Italian academic communities. Since its inception, it has fostered dialogue among scholars from diverse research traditions, encouraging engagement between different philosophical and methodological approaches and making a significant contribution to the advancement and development of Fichte studies through an open-access digital publication.
Journal Aims
The primary aim of the journal is to promote research and critical debate on the philosophy of Johann Gottlieb Fichte, as well as on the philosophers, intellectual traditions, and historical contexts that shaped his thought or have received, developed, and reinterpreted his philosophical legacy. The journal provides a forum for the publication of original scholarly contributions addressing the historical, historiographical, and theoretical dimensions of Fichte's philosophy, fostering dialogue among diverse interpretative approaches and contributing to the advancement of research and scholarly debate within the international academic community.
Focus and Scope
The journal welcomes original contributions of a historiographical, historical-philosophical, and theoretical nature devoted to the study of the philosophy of Johann Gottlieb Fichte and related topics. While giving priority to specialised research on Fichte's philosophy, the journal also welcomes submissions that examine its historical and intellectual context, as well as its reception and influence. The journal's scope includes, but is not limited to:
- exegetical and interpretative studies of Fichte's works;
- research on the historical, philosophical, and cultural context in which Fichte's thought emerged;
- analyses of the reception and influence of Fichte's philosophy across different philosophical traditions and cultural contexts;
- studies of Fichte's dialogue with his predecessors, contemporaries, and subsequent developments within the philosophical tradition;
- contributions exploring the theoretical significance and contemporary relevance of Fichte's philosophy.
The journal publishes research articles, translations of texts relevant to Fichte studies, and book reviews in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and Italian. In keeping with its international mission, it pays particular attention to promoting research produced in Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula, and Italy, while fostering dialogue between these scholarly traditions and the wider international academic community.

Peer Review Process
The journal operates a double-blind peer review system, ensuring the reciprocal anonymity of authors and reviewers throughout the entire review process. The editorial procedure consists of the following stages:
Desk Review. The Editor-in-Chief and/or the Section Editors assess whether the manuscript falls within the journal's aims and scope, complies with the journal's editorial guidelines, and meets the principles of research integrity, including originality checks. Manuscripts that do not satisfy these requirements may be rejected at this stage.
Assignment to Reviewers. Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial assessment are assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers selected on the basis of their scholarly expertise and the absence of any conflict of interest.
Peer Review. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript with regard to its originality, scholarly significance, methodological soundness, argumentative rigour, clarity of presentation, and overall contribution to the field. They provide detailed and constructive reports designed to assist authors in improving their work.
Editorial Decision. On the basis of the reviewers' reports, the Editor-in-Chief and/or the Section Editors reach one of the following decisions: acceptance; acceptance subject to minor revisions; major revisions and resubmission for further review; or rejection. Where the reviewers' recommendations differ substantially, the manuscript may be referred to a third reviewer.
Notification of Authors. The editorial decision, together with the anonymised reviewers' reports, is communicated to the authors. Where revisions are requested, authors are expected to respond carefully and comprehensively to all comments raised during the review process.
The journal is committed to ensuring that the peer review process is conducted in accordance with the principles of impartiality, confidentiality, transparency, and scholarly rigour, in line with internationally recognised standards of academic publishing.
Conflict of Interest Policy
The journal requires authors, editors, and reviewers to disclose promptly any real, potential, or perceived conflict of interest that could compromise, or reasonably be perceived as compromising, the impartiality of the editorial process. Such conflicts may include, but are not limited to, financial interests, professional or institutional relationships, research collaborations, personal relationships, or any other circumstance that could influence the objectivity of the peer review or editorial decision-making process. All individuals involved in the editorial process are required to recuse themselves from the evaluation of, or editorial decisions concerning, any manuscript for which a conflict of interest exists. The journal is committed to managing such situations in accordance with the principles of transparency, impartiality, and confidentiality, thereby safeguarding the integrity, credibility, and reliability of the publication process.

In accordance with the standards established by SciELO and the best practices of international scholarly publishing, the journal adopts an Open Access policy, based on the conviction that the free and immediate availability of research results promotes the dissemination of knowledge, the circulation of ideas, and the advancement of the scholarly community. The journal's Open Access policy is founded on the following principles:
Publication Licence. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence, which permits copying, distribution, sharing, adaptation, and reuse of the work, including for commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and to the journal as the place of first publication.
Copyright. Authors retain full copyright in their contributions while granting the journal the right of first publication, in accordance with SciELO's policies.
Metadata. Article metadata, including titles, abstracts, keywords, bibliographic references, and authors' affiliations, are made available under the CC0 (Creative Commons Zero – Public Domain Dedication) licence, facilitating indexing, reuse, and interoperability.
Research Data. The journal encourages authors, whenever possible, to make available the research data, code, materials, and any other resources necessary to verify and reproduce their findings. Authors are encouraged to cite the datasets on which their research is based and to include a Data Availability Statement indicating how the underlying data may be accessed or, where this is not possible, explaining the reasons for their unavailability.
Transparency of the Peer Review Process. In line with SciELO's Open Science programme, the journal offers, on a voluntary basis and subject to the consent of the parties concerned, the possibility of:
- publishing the name and ORCID iD of the editor responsible for the manuscript;
- disclosing the identities of authors and reviewers during the peer review process;
- publishing the peer review reports relating to accepted manuscripts, with or without reviewer identification, according to the preferences expressed by the parties involved.
By adopting these practices, the journal seeks to promote a more transparent, responsible, and collaborative model of research, thereby strengthening the quality, reliability, and impact of scholarly communication.
Good Practices Policy
The Journal adheres to the principles and Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), adopting international best practices to ensure the integrity, transparency, and quality of scholarly communication. In particular, the Journal is committed to upholding the following principles.
Research integrity. All cases of suspected research misconduct, including plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, image manipulation, inappropriate attribution of authorship, and any other breach of research ethics, are investigated in accordance with COPE's procedures and recommendations. Where appropriate, the Journal will take such measures as it considers necessary, including requesting clarification from the authors, notifying the relevant institutions, and, in the most serious cases, publishing corrections or retracting the article.
Corrections, errata, and retractions. Errors that do not compromise the overall reliability of the published findings are corrected through the publication of an erratum. Where serious breaches of research integrity, unreliable data, or other circumstances that undermine the reliability of the published content are identified, the Journal will retract the article in accordance with the COPE guidelines and SciELO's policies.
