RESPONSABILITIES AND DUTIES 

The Journal of Stud(i)es on Fichte (REsF) is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics, in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and Elsevier. The responsibilities and duties of each party involved in the editorial process are set out below.

AUTHORS

Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that the submitted work is original and that any data or text taken from third parties has been properly cited and referenced. Plagiarism in any form constitutes unethical conduct and is unacceptable.

Authorship: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All individuals who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors, in accordance with the CRediT taxonomy.

Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the results or the interpretation of their manuscript.

Errors in Published Works: If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, they are obliged to notify the journal's Editor promptly and to cooperate in the correction or retraction of the article (see the journal's guidelines on errata and retractions).

EDITORIAL TEAM

Publication Decisions: The Journal manager of the journal is solely and independently responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be published, often in consultation with the relevant scholarly society (for journals owned or sponsored by academic societies). Such decisions should always be based on the scholarly validity of the work and its significance for researchers and readers.

Fair Play: Editors must evaluate manuscripts solely on the basis of their intellectual and scholarly merit, without discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality: The Editor and all members of the editorial team must ensure that information relating to submitted manuscripts is treated as confidential and is not disclosed to anyone, reviewers, prospective reviewers, and other editors involved in the editorial process.

Conflicts of Interest: Editors must decline to handle manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive or collaborative relationships, or any other connection with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the submitted work.

REVIEWERS

Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists the Editors in making editorial decisions and, through editorial communication with the authors, also helps authors to improve the quality of their manuscripts.

Timeliness: Any reviewer who considers themselves insufficiently qualified to assess a manuscript, or who knows that they will be unable to complete the review within a reasonable time, should promptly notify the Editors and withdraw from the review process.

Confidentiality: Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document. 

Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively and impartially. Personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and support them with appropriate arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any observation that an idea, argument, or finding has already been published should be accompanied by the appropriate bibliographic reference.

Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must not undertake the evaluation of manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive or collaborative relationships, or any other connection with the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the submitted work.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST: 

The editorial workflow of the Journal of Studies on Fichte (REsF) has been designed to ensure efficiency, rigour, and transparency throughout every stage of the publication process, from manuscript submission to publication. The journal is published twice a year. In addition, in accordance with current trends in scholarly communication and the SciELO guidelines, REsF adopts the Continuous Publication model, allowing accepted articles to be published immediately upon completion of the editorial process. 

The editorial process comprises the following stages:

1. Submission Receipt and Registration
Automatic acknowledgement of manuscript receipt and assignment of a submission reference number.

2. Submission Form and Mandatory Declarations
At the time of submission, authors must complete the Submission Form, which includes the mandatory declarations required to ensure a transparent and informed editorial and peer-review process, as detailed in the Submission and Editorial Policy sections. REsF accepts manuscripts previously deposited as preprints (particularly in SciELO Preprints). Authors must provide the corresponding DOI upon submission. 

3. Desk Review
The Editorial Board conducts a preliminary assessment to verify the manuscript's relevance to the journal's scope, compliance with the journal's formatting requirements, and the absence of plagiarism using Turnitin Similarity. Manuscripts that fail to meet these requirements are either returned to the authors for revision or rejected.

4. Reviewer Assignment
Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial screening are assigned to ad hoc expert reviewers. 

5. Peer Review Rounds
Communication between authors and reviewers is managed exclusively by the Editorial Team, ensuring anonymity in accordance with the adopted review model. The review process may involve multiple rounds of revision. REsF adopts double-blind peer review as its standard procedure. 

6. Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers' reports, the Editor-in-Chief makes the final publication decision. 

7. Copy-editing and Production
Following acceptance, the manuscript undergoes language editing, bibliographic standardisation, and electronic production, including the preparation of XML, HTML, and PDF versions.

8. DEIA Form and Final Publication Form
After acceptance, the remaining information required for publication is collected through the DEIA Form (optional gender and ethnicity data) and the Final Publication Form, which gathers complementary metadata, including CRediT authorship contributions, funding information, acknowledgements, and other relevant details.

9. Publication
The article is published in open access on the journal's official website under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. Metadata are dedicated to the public domain under the CC0 1.0 Universal licence. Each article is assigned a DOI and digitally preserved through the UFES Journal Portal and the CLOCKSS preservation system. The Journal follows the COPE guidelines for correcting published articles and, where appropriate, employs errata, retractions, and expressions of concern.

OPEN SCIENCE

In line with SciELO standards and international best practices, the Journal of Stud(i)es on Fichte promotes transparency and openness in scholarly research through the following measures:

Licensing
All published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. This licence permits anyone to copy, distribute, adapt, remix, and build upon the published work, including for commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and the first publication in this journal is acknowledged.

Copyright
Authors retain the copyright of their articles, in accordance with the guidelines of SciELO Brasil. The journal retains only the right of first publication.

Metadata
All metadata relating to published articles (including titles, abstracts, keywords, bibliographic references, institutional affiliations, and other descriptive elements) are released under the CC0 (Creative Commons Zero – Public Domain) dedication. This means that the journal waives all copyright and related rights over such information, allowing it to be freely extracted, reused, interoperated, and redistributed by any system, bibliographic index, or user without restriction.

Research Data
The journal recommends that the research data underlying published articles (including numerical datasets, software code, documentation, and other supporting materials) be properly cited and referenced, and that authors include a Data Availability Statement indicating the accessibility of such data.

Open Peer Review
The journal publishes the name of the editor responsible for the editorial assessment, offers the possibility of disclosing the identities of the corresponding author and reviewer during the peer-review process where both parties expressly consent, and may publish the peer-review reports of accepted manuscripts, either anonymously or with reviewer attribution, subject to the agreement of both the corresponding author and the reviewers.
