This article is based on discussions that link the themes of credit consumption, financial violence, and low-income elders, from the viewpoint of Transformative Consumer Research (TCR). Its objective is to understand the consumption of credit for the low-income elderly through the assimilation of the modus operandi of the credit market. Methodologically, through ethnography, participant observation was used, reports in field journals and semi-structured individual interviews, evaluated through content analysis, resulting in three categories: loan as an object of consumption, the two faces of violence and the elderly as a family provider. As a result, empirical data point out that the conflictual relations experienced by consumers and the forces of the market, family and government have effects that reinforce the experience of financial violence in the context of credit consumption.
