Authorship, ethics, and inclusion in the age of artificial intelligence

This essay examines the use of artificial intelligence in scientific writing. It adopts an essayistic methodology grounded in the author’s concrete experience with the everyday use of these tools in textual production and in the teaching of scientific writing, taking ChatGPT as a reference. The text incorporates questions formulated by four peer reviewers, which broaden and deepen the debate. The central argument is that artificial intelligence should be employed only in tasks that can be outsourced, without replacing authorial responsibility. Authorship, built from the experiences of authors, should be encouraged and preserved. The essay concludes that AI can support writing when restricted to delegable tasks, but tends to reinforce hierarchies when it assumes interpretive functions. Its contribution lies in proposing criteria for responsible use, reaffirming the centrality of authorship, and indicating institutional pathways for an ethical and inclusive incorporation of artificial intelligence.
