Abstract

In this article we will discuss some aspects of the exhibition “Modern! São Paulo seen by them”, brought by the Jewish Museum of São Paulo, and the photographic narratives produced by 7 Jewish women who came to Brazil between the 1930s and 1950s. Restricted to contexts of production and dissemination, outside of ordinary circles, the works reveal a strong contribution to Brazilian modernism.
What the museum proposes is the expansion of the public to a history unknown, but that can be thought from the contributions of Public History, while intertwining with the aesthetic experience of Walter Benjamin (1994).

Author Biographies

Helena Ragusa Granado, Universidade Estadual do Paraná - UNESPAR - CAMPO MOURÃO

PhD in History, with emphasis in Political History from the State University of Maringá (2022), with work on the production of historical knowledge around the Jew in the pubic sphere from 2000 to 2008. Master in Social History from the State University of Londrina (2012), with emphasis on History and teaching, with work on New Christians in Brazil colony and as they appear in textbooks. Specialist in Social History by the State University of Londrina (2000), with monographic work around the Jew in racial thought of Brazil in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. She is the author of the book "New Christians in colonial Brazil and Writing in textbooks: a story to be told" (EUEL, 2019). She is currently a professor of history at the Government of the State of Paraná and is in a post-doctoral internship at the State University of Paraná, campus of Campo Mourão, with the theme of research studies on the Holocaust in the scope of Public History and Scientific Dissemination.
