Abstract

This article analyses how the National Anti-Drug Fund (Fundo Nacional Antidrogas - FUNAD) has been used to finance mental health, alcohol, and other drugs policies, specifically within the context of Psychiatric Counter-Reform (PC) under the Bolsonaro government. We utilised state sources and academic literature on FUNAD and the relevant policies. We found that FUNAD has been used to intensify repression and attacks on Brazilian Psychiatric Reform, subsidising the PC movement in its asylum, privatist, and conservative character, in particular via Therapeutic Communities, in a form of reverse social control. We point out the centrality of addressing FUNAD in academic productions, praxis, and militancy regarding mental health, alcohol, and other drugs.
