This paper analyses Olvido (1987-1989), a work in which Cildo Meireles approaches indigenous decimation from the point of view of sound (SCHAFER, 2011), visuality and also smell, highlighting the impact of colonization in the Americas. We resorted to MoMA archives, from the Memória Lage collection and to an interview conducted by us with the artist (2020). We problematize how the life of native peoples was valued in colonial processes, highlighting the friction between white-European culture and indigenous cosmogony.
