Patronato, liderança e conflito na República
a relação de César e Otávio com os veteranos (64 a.C.-27 a.C.)

Neste artigo, nos propomos a analisar o papel dos veteranos, entre 64 e 27 a.C., ou seja, nas últimas décadas da República, como um grupo de apoio a Júlio César e Otávio. Durante esse período, os veteranos emergiram como uma força significativa, sendo rapidamente cooptados por esses líderes, que viam neles um recurso para desafiar a política senatorial. Em troca de seu apoio, os veteranos exigiam benefícios materiais, consolidando uma relação de patronato e clientela. Esse vínculo não só caracterizou sua atuação, como também contribuiu para as profundas transformações sociais que marcaram a crise republicana.
