The morning-after pill is an emergency contraceptive method used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or failure of another method. Its excessive use can carry health risks and reduce long-term effectiveness. This study aimed to understand the perception and knowledge of students about the use of the morning-after pill, to investigate the motivations for the consumption of this contraceptive method and to promote critical reflection on sex education. Conducted with students in the 2nd grade of high school, in the initial phase, the students raised hypotheses about the main factors that lead to the prolonged use of emergency contraception. In the second stage, data were collected through questionnaires applied to 3rd grade students, divided by gender. An analysis of the results revealed that, for girls, the most frequent reasons for using the pill were related to unprotected intercourse, followed by failure on the regular contraceptive method. Among the boys, most had not asked their partners to use the method, and most demonstrated knowledge about the pill, but without using the method preventively. The discussion of the data led to a reflection on the lack of formal sex education and the need for greater awareness about the risks of frequent use of the pill. In conclusion, the study reinforces the urgent need for educational programs that promote the responsible use of contraception and the dissemination of clear and accessible information.
