Profile of patients suffered by stroke at the FACISA/UFRN School of physiotherapy clinic

Introduction: Stroke is the main cause of disability long term in adults, resulting in damage of the quality of life in population. Objective: To analyze the profile of patients affected by stroke in a Facisa/UFRN Clinic School of Physiotherapy. Methods: This is an analytical, observational, longitudinal study of the prospective type, where data collection was carried out and some data from the medical records. The collection period started in May 2018 and ended in October of the same year. The sociodemographic, cognitive and motor profile were evaluated through a semistructured evaluation and application of instruments that quantify specific motor impairments. Results: Of the 29 patients analyzed, the prevalence of stroke in males was found in the sample, of which 17 were affected (58.62%), mostly married 21 (72.41%), in the age group 70-79 (41.37%), illiterate (31%), retired 15 (51.72%) and residents in Santa Cruz / RN 26 (89.65%). 68.96% of the individuals had ischemic involvement, with hemiparesis 15 (51.72%), and the main complication secondary to shoulder subluxation 3 (10.34%). Conclusion: There is a relation of the high incidence of stroke affection in the population and the appearance of cognitive, sensorial and motor deficits, in addition to the associated social limitations. Therefore, this study can be used to create more targeted and efficient combat strategies once the profile of these individuals is better known.
