Impressões de um viajante estoico: o simbolismo da morte na 'Ad Lucilium Epistola' LXX, de Sêneca (1-4 a.C. – 65 d.C.)

Resumo

Viajar é uma atividade constante no cotidiano social. Com frequência, ela envolve diversos elementos, como logística, deslocamento, alimentação, etc. Ao se considerar a Antiguidade, pode-se observar imagens sobre viagens e viajantes em obras de autores como Sêneca e Élio Aristides e, em diálogo com a cultura material, tem-se testemunhos acerca das inscrições de trechos, pontes, itinerários, pavimentações, entre outros elementos. O objetivo deste estudo consiste em analisar dois aspectos da viagem na sociedade romana: primeiro, produzir reflexões sobre as estradas, pois converteram-se em fontes de comunicação e base do poder imperial. Para tanto, o estudo de caso se volta para a Via Appia, que conectava Roma a Cápua. A partir daí o segundo aspecto se envereda rumo às viagens filosóficas presentes na Epístola LXX, de Sêneca.
