Editorial policy with a view to sustainability

Financial sustainability essentially deserves commitment for the success of BJPE. Specialized tasks and analyzes of scientific merit demand arduous and continuous dedication from the editorial team. Contentment on the part of readers and authors is the cornerstone of motivation for the continuous improvement of BJPE. This safeguards the right to only publish manuscripts that have undergone a rigorous evaluation, editing and layout process. The conservation of scientific quality requires adequate and continuous structure and resources.

However, the publication and dissemination of the most varied studies carried out requires various costs, such as: language review, translation, standardization, layout, electronic publishing (DOI, XML, HTML), among other services. With the above, voluntary editorial activity in Brazil, despite being a success story in the country, is still insufficient. It is worth highlighting again that BJPE, like numerous national scientific journals, does not charge any type of fee for submission, evaluation or publication of articles. Therefore, the editorial process currently, and in the absence of funding, is the responsibility of the journal's Editorial Committee, including: textual review services, after modifications requested from the authors in the evaluation process; Formatting and standardization following APA standards, citations and references; complete review of English, as well as Portuguese and Spanish; when feasible, the preparation of an XML version; attribution and validation of the DOI; review and formatting of metadata and author information on the OJS (Open Journal System) platform and in the article; among other publishing and editorial management demands and services.

Also, to guarantee financial sustainability, whenever possible (when a specific call for proposals is opened), calls for proposals to support scientific journals offered by FAPES are regularly competed for. Part of the funding for editorial services comes from this source.

Finally, the diversification of funding sources and the uninterrupted search for new paths within UFES itself are essential to maintain the quality and continuity of publications. This is the only way to ensure that the journal grows and continues to be a reference for scientific excellence.
