Archiving

The PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) provides free preservation services to any OJS journal that meets a basic set of criteria. This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create an archive system distributed among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoration.

Digital Preservation Policy
Consider several steps and best practices to ensure data longevity and accessibility. Details:

Constant evaluation and inventory of the Collection, identifying and cataloging all items in the collection, including articles, complete editions, images, graphs, tables, videos, etc. The file formats are in existing digital formats (PDF, DOC, JPEG, etc.). Currently, BJPE uses cloud archiving (NextCloud-UFES).

Preservation Policies define the purpose of digital preservation and the objectives to be achieved with it. Assigning responsibilities, including who will be responsible for maintaining and updating the collection; Copyright and licensing to ensure and enable preservation and continued access.

Preservation Strategies, through change/migration to more stable and accessible Formats, as necessary. Also use Redundancy as storage strategies (backup) in different physical locations and in the cloud.

Technology and Infrastructure, such as the use of a Digital Repository, establishing a safe and reliable location for storing files. However, BJPE intends to soon use Standards and Protocols, adopting open and internationally recognized models (such as XML) to guarantee interoperability and sustainability.

As for Regular Monitoring and Maintenance, there is a daily standard for checking the integrity and accessibility of files (users and authors need to be able to access the system without errors or obstacles). Corrective and Preventive Maintenance are both performed on the storage and file system as needed. As for Technological Update, there is an always up-to-date look at new technologies and digital preservation practices.

Access, Usability, Indexing, Search and User Interface at BJPE ensures that the collection is always accessible to all users, considering accessibility issues for everyone, in an intuitive and friendly way (Transforming Content into Audio - VLibras; Transforming Text in Sign Language, Resizing Images and Transforming ideas into images).

BJPE currently offers Training and Capacity Building with the UFES Scientific Journals Committee, students, interns and monitors (Scholars), aiming at digital preservation and providing guidance and support to users on how to access and use the digital collection. Finally, a Continuous Assessment and Improvement is carried out on digital preservation to identify areas for improvement. Capturing User Feedback to collect, analyze and improve the collection access experience.
