This article presents an experimental demonstration activity called black light box. The activity was carried out with initial grades students in Science. The addressed topic was hygiene and health. The materials used were a black box with a black light (ultraviolet radiation), fluorescent ink (yellow highlighter pen charge), and a spray bottle. The phenomenon involved is called fluorescence, in which certain compounds - such as highlighter pigments - absorb the light energy incident on them and emit light, which causes them to shine. The students' hands were wetted with fluorescent ink to observe brighter regions which are the ones with dirt. The students were able to connect the theorical content with the experiment and also they learned the importance of changes in their hygiene habits.
