A multidisciplinary proposal for the teaching of organic functions based on the scientific dissemination book “Napoleon’s Buttons’’

Abstract: The present work aims to report a pedagogical multidisciplinary experience for the teaching of organic functions in basic education, from using the chapter “The pill’’ of the scientific dissemination book “Napoleon’s Buttons: How 17 molecules changed history’’. The didactic sequence happened with 13 students of public’s high school from Porto Alegre. The data is composed by the records of the Teaching Initiation scholarship observations that where writing on yours field diaries and by the student’s productions realized in the activity developed which was analyzed in a descriptive and interpretative way. The results indicate that the use of scientific disseminations text favored the development of critical thinking because the students were able to study concepts of Chemistry in a way related to Biology and to the historical and social contexts reported in the book, enabling a contextualized learning of school knowledge.
